Faisant office de 21e et dernière étape du Tour d'Italie, le contre-la-montre entre Senago et Milan (30,3 km) a vu la victoire ce dimanche de Filippo Ganna, qui remporte ainsi son cinquième chrono consécutif sur le Giro. Malgré une crevaison dans le final, l'Italien de l'équipe INEOS Grenadiers a devancé Rémi Cavagna (Deceuninck-Quick Step) de 12 secondes. Mais le classement aurait pu être inversé sans la chute du champion de France de la spécialité dans le dernier kilomètre, cette dernière l'ayant très certainement privé d'un premier succès d'étape sur un Grand Tour.

20ième étape : Verbania - Valle Spluga / Alpe Motta, 164 km, Caruso la 20e étape, Bardet 4e, Bernal proche du sacre.
Au terme d'une spectaculaire 20e étape du Tour d'Italie, Damiano Caruso s'est imposé au sommet de Valle Spluga-Alpe Motta. Parti dans la descente du Passo San Bernardino à une cinquantaine de kilomètres de l'arrivée en compagnie notamment de Romain Bardet (Team DSM), l'Italien de la Bahrain Victorious a distancé le Français à 2 kilomètres de l'arrivée et remporté la plus grande victoire de sa carrière. Egan Bernal (INEOS Grenadiers) a pris la deuxième place de cette étape à 24 secondes du vainqueur du jour, tandis que Daniel Martinez (INEOS Grenadiers) et Romain Bardet ont respectivement terminé troisième et quatrième à 35 secondes.

19ième étape ce vendredi, Abbiategrasso - Alpe di Mera, 166 km Egan Bernal a réalisé une belle montée et limite la casse !
Au terme d'une 19e étape du Tour d'Italie remportée par Simon Yates (Team BikeExchange), Egan Bernal (INEOS Grenadiers) a réussi à conserver sa tunique de leader de la course. Attaqué par le Britannique à 6 kilomètres du but, il a réussi à limiter l'écart et ne concède que 34 secondes sur son rival à l'arrivée en prenant la troisième place. Bien épaulé par ses coéquipiers, il dispose désormais d'une avance de 2'29" d'avance sur Damiano Caruso (Bahrain-Victorious) et 2'49" sur Yates. Après la course, le natif de Bogota s'est confié sur sa journée.

18ième étape : Rovereto - Stradella, 231 km, Alberto Bettiol remporte la 18e étape, Cavagna a tenté
Coéquipier précieux pour Hugh Carthy depuis le début du Tour d'Italie, Alberto Bettiol (EF Education-Nippo) a profité d'un parcours favorable aux baroudeurs pour remporter la 18e étape ce jeudi. Présent dans une échappée de 23 coureurs, l'Italien était le plus fort dans le final en revenant d'abord sur Rémi Cavagna (Deceuinck - Quick Step), qui était sorti seul quelques instants auparavant, avant de faire exploser le Français. Il a ensuite facilement résisté au retour des poursuivants pour aller chercher ce succès de prestige, deux ans après sa victoire sur le Tour des Flandres.

Alléchante sur le papier, la 17e étape du Tour d'Italie a tenu toutes ses promesses et consacré l'Irlandais Dan Martin, qui rentre ainsi dans le cercle des vainqueurs d'étape sur les trois Grands Tours. Présent dans l'échappée du jour et seul survivant de cette dernière, le grimpeur de l'équipe Israel Start-Up Nation a réalisé une montée finale de Sega di Ala exceptionnelle pour résister au retour des cadors du classement général. La deuxième place est revenue à Joao Almeida (Deceuninck-Quick Step), tandis que Simon Yates (Team BikeExchange) a terminé troisième à 30 secondes du vainqueur du jour.

Tour d'Italie - Sacile - Cortina d'Ampezzo, 212 km La 16e étape, une journée cruciale en très haute montagne ! Le leader a mis tous le monde d'accord. Egan Bernal s'impose devant Bardet et assomme le Giro
Même amputée de deux grandes difficultés, la 16e étape du Tour d'Italie a offert un très beau spectacle (même si les téléspectateurs ont été privés d'images dans les 50 derniers kilomètres à cause des conditions climatiques). Et comme depuis le début du Giro, le plus fort a été Egan Bernal (INEOS Grenadiers) ! Le Colombien a distancé tous ses concurrents dans les terribles pentes du Passo Giau avant de gérer son avance dans la descente jusqu'à Cortina d'Ampezzo. Au final, il s'est imposé avec 27'' d'avance sur Romain Bardet (Team DSM) et Damiano Caruso (Bahrain-Victorious) et prend une très belle option sur la victoire finale.

Grado - Gorizia (Slovénie), 147 km, Victor Campenaerts gagne la 15e étape devant Riesebeek
Victor Campenaerts (Qhubeka Assos) a remporté la 15e étape du Tour d'Italie en devançant au sprint Oscar Riesebeek (Alpecin-Fenix). Présents dans une échappée de 15 coureurs, les deux hommes sont sortis dans le final et n'ont jamais été rejoints par leurs poursuivants. Ils se sont ensuite disputés la victoire, et Campenaerts s'est donc montré le plus fort pour remporter son premier succès sur un Grand Tour. Juste derrière, Nikias Arndt (Team DSM) a réglé le sprint pour la 3e place devant Simone Consonni (Cofidis).

La 14e étape, l'arrivée au sommet du Monte Zoncolan ! La surprise Fortunato au Zoncolan, Bernal trop fort !
L'Italien Lorenzo Fortunato a créé la surprise ce samedi lors de la 14e étape du Tour d'Italie en s'imposant au sommet du Monte Zoncolan. Membre d'une échappée de onze hommes, le coureur de la formation EOLO-Kometa a distancé tous ses adversaires dans la montée finale. La deuxième place revient au Slovène Jan Tratnik (Bahrain Victorious) et le podium est complété par l'Italien Alessandro Covi (UAE-Team Emirates). Encore une fois impérial, Egan Bernal (INEOS Grenadiers), quatrième de l'étape, a lâché tous ses rivaux dans les derniers kilomètres et consolide encore un peu plus sa place de leader du classement général.

Elle a mis deux semaines à faire son apparition, mais la grande et haute montagne arrive samedi sur le 104e Tour d'Italie ! Deux cols seront en effet au programme de la 14e étape, dont le Monte Zoncolan, au sommet duquel sera jugée l'arrivée, à plus de 1 700 mètres d'altitude. Considéré comme l'un des cols les plus durs d'Europe, le Zoncolan ne sera pas escaladé par son versant traditionnel, mais il reste tout de même terrifiant (14,1 km 8,5%), et notamment dans sa partie finale puisque les 3 derniers kilomètres sont à 13% de moyenne, un passage à 27% étant même indiqué ! Une grande bataille entre les favoris est donc attendue dans cette ascension légendaire, le Forcella Monte Rest (10,5 km à 5,9%) étant pour sa part situé trop loin de l'arrivée pour que les hostilités y soient déclenchées.
